GET STARTED WITH YouTube

This week our guest blogger is Helen from Orchid Digital, who we work with for Video and Animation projects. This article is all about tips about getting started on You Tube. YouTube is a powerful marketing tool these days – watch this space as we are working on an animation project with Helen for Thrive Studios we’ll let you know how we get on.

I often get asked how YouTube works, how to upload video content, and how does the video ‘sit’ on a website. So to kick off the week, here are some top tips…

1) Everyone can create a YouTube account and remember it is FREE so why not use it?! Go to YouTube.com and either sign in with your Gmail account, or set one up. Once you’re signed in you should add your details such as a channel name. Keep it all consistent and relevant to your brand. You can even link your website, Facebook and Twitter channels to your account.

2) When you have a video, it’s very easy to upload. The UPLOAD button is found at the top of the page, just remember to set to ‘public’ if you want everyone to see it. Try to add a relevant title and a description in the boxes below the video, this will help with SEO. You can even add ‘tags’ in the keywords box, which will boost your views.

3) Create a PLAYLIST – this means you can add videos you’ve uploaded or videos you like and think could be relevant to your business. Think of your channel to be a bit like a normal TV channel, you want the content to be interesting or you will go elsewhere.

4) If you’d like to ’embed’ a video onto your own website then select the ‘share’ button underneath the video and select ’embed’ this will bring up some code in a box. Then copy + paste this code into your website html. Your video should then appear on your website within seconds.

5) If you want to start making videos but don’t have a clue, then content such as testimonials, case studies, introductions and FAQs are a good place to start. Good luck!
